Welcome to my Blog. This blog was created to meet the requirements of the PIDP (Provincial Instructor Diploma Program) course I am taking this summer-June 25th,2012 to August 22nd,2012.
I am very new to WEB 2.0. But since this is a required course, it’s just something I have to do. It’s hard to believe I am actually doing this… It’s been exciting reading about all the possibilities with technology.
I have enjoyed teaching preschool since 1995 and at this point in my life, I’d like to think that I can share some knowledge and experience with young Early Childhood Educators or those who want to go into this field. It’s interesting that at the beginning of teaching back in 1995…I was still considering the possibility of using computers in my preschool classroom. I have now reached the conclusion that preschoolers do not need any more screen time as long as they are in preschool or in my class. What they will need is live/actual interaction with adults or peers. They have enough screen time elsewhere and they will use the web and learn about all these technical aspect as they go through the school system. Preschoolers learn best when they are using all of their senses touching, seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting (if applicable) real/living things instead of virtual stuff. Who knows, at the rate technology is going, they might even be able simulate or create a program that allows preschoolers to do this.
I do see the potential and power of using Web 2.0 for adult learners or older students. Since this is the area I am hoping to move into, it is time to buckle down and get into it.
Aside from 3-5 year old guys, I am also passionate about Christian Education and am thankful to be involved in this area professionally .Presently, I am a manager and a teacher of a Christian preschool in Richmond. We have 4 classrooms totalling 68 students (assuming full-enrolment) I work with 2-3 other colleagues depending on the class.
I volunteer and co-teach adults with Discipleship International 9 months out of the year and also help with an organization called BSF International. Both organizations help people find out more about God and about themselves which results to finding answers to life’s big questions. I have also been involved with Children’s Ministry in my home church for the past 20 years and is looking to improve skills to facilitate training others.
On my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking and watching movies. I am grateful to be blessed with a wonderful husband and 2 loving sons.
